Top and Best Businesses to start in 2008 and Beyond

by Vahid | Good To Know | Monday, January 7th, 2008

You tried getting rich by developing a kick-butt website a couple of years ago. It didn’t pan out. Now you’re just trying to find a profitable line of business to get into.

Well! This is a good idea. We should not give up. There are a lot of businesses that you can learn and start easily and they can make real money for you. But the key secret is that you should keep on learning and you should not give up.

So what is the top and best business to start?

That’s a million dollar question. The answer can be different from person to person. If you ask me, as I am an internet marketer, first I will suggest you the businesses that are related to the internet and then will talk about other kinds of businesses.

If you don’t know a lot about the internet and computer and you don’t like to have an internet based business, just keep on reading this article and I will tell you that you are wrong. I do not want to and will not refer you to any work at home online business opportunity. I just explain how they work and how you can learn and run an internet based business.

1. Forex:

Forex has not been started with the internet. It is an ancient business but the internet made it easier and faster. To buy and sell currencies, you don’t have to leave your house or call any bank or agency. You can just do it through the internet and in a few seconds. You can buy millions of dollars and then sell it in one minute. You will not see the money. Everything will be done online and through the internet and in your virtual account.

How it works? I have a detailed article about it. Just read it carefully: What Is Forex and How to Make Money with It?

Yes; Forex can make a lot of money just by working a few hours from home. You need to learn it first but it is not that hard. You can learn it if you want. In fact it is much easier than any other of kind of business like offline businesses or even other kinds of online businesses.

To learn forex, you will not have to spend any money because all the information can be found over the internet for free. This is how I learned it. I learned it from my friends and also through the internet and I didn’t spend any money for that.

Here on my weblog I teach people for free. You can see the forex category and you will admit.

There are also a lot of good tools and softwares that help you to promote your forex business. Andreas Kirchberger software is the best one.

So if you want to have a new business, Forex is one of the best businesses to start in 2008.

2. Other kinds of Online Work at Home Businesses:

Fortunately, I have already written good articles about other kinds of online businesses including blogging and affiliate marketing. I suggest you to read one of them to know what these kinds of business are and how they work: What Is the Best Online Work at Home Business?

Email marketing is one of the other kinds of internet based businesses.

Jonathan Jackson, managing partner of Galati + Jackson, a consulting firm based in New York, has been a fan of e-mail marketing for years. “With recent attacks on telemarketers and the long time aversion to junk mail, e-mail marketers seem to have the edge,” he says. He’s quick to add, however, that he regards e-mail marketing as permission-based, and says it does not take in spam, which he considers an “abomination.”

A well-thought-out e-mail marketing campaign that sensibly targets a specific audience consistently gets results, Jackson says. Indeed, targeted e-mail marketing can make a world of sense for small businesses with limited resources. It’s easy to research your potential target over the Web, enabling you to build your own list of contacts.

Moreover, a well-crafted personalized e-mail message to a customer that you have already determined may be interested in your product or service is more likely to be read than generic spam.

What about Other Kinds of Businesses?

Where should you look?

To answer this question, here are four different perspectives gleaned from authors, consultants, successful entrepreneurs and analysts. Here’s what they came up with:

1. Healthy living

Robert M. McMath, co-author of “What Were They Thinking?,” a guide on what not to do when bringing new products and services to market, says businesses that relate to healthy living and healthy lifestyles are the best ones to go into in 2008. Healthy living, he says, takes in everything from exercise equipment to healthy foods.

He cautions, however, that getting a foot in this field isn’t a bowl of soy nuts. The major problem is money. There are many “barrier fees” at the retail store level, and simply having a good product does not guarantee you will gain distribution.

Still, McMath feels the prevailing interest in personal health today offers promise to those willing to fight their way through the imposing fee structure. “Functional foods and beverages, if promoted and positioned right, have an opportunity to gain interest among potential customers, because it [healthy living] is of deep concern and will grow in importance,” he says.

2. Fee-for-service financial planning

David Cork, author of “The Pig and the Python: How to Prosper from the Aging Baby Boom,” points out that the baby boom is in a quandary. While the average boomer is still in his 40s and not quite focused on retirement yet, most nonetheless need help with financial planning.

Cork feels that investment advisers have done a good job of bringing boomers into the investment market — but not in dealing with what comes next. “The whole generation is flipping out,” as they view their investment accounts dwindling in the current economy, he says.

That, in turn, spells real opportunity for independent fee-for-service financial planners (take note, commission-driven planners). However, Cork points out that their services will have to be particularly comprehensive, taking in not only investments but also cash flow, tax strategies and spending habits.

3. Digital selling through the Web

Frank Feather, futurist and author of “Future Consumer.com: The Webolution of Shopping to 2010,” insists that “almost any product that can be digitized has the potential to do well online.” This includes software, music, newsletters, magazines and books. The Web-shopping experience is especially compelling whenever the process permits personalization and customization of a product or service, Feather says.

He has a point. Publicly-held Internet companies (the ones still standing) are finally starting to show a profit, and the most successful ones allow customization of the buying process.

In particular, Feather suggests looking at Dell or Amazon.com as the best examples of successful selling of digitized products online. But keep your admiration at a distance, he adds. “I don’t recommend competing with them, or in those sectors.”

4. Wireless technology

Are wireless applications the next boom niche? Doug Simpson, principal of Toronto-based NetGain Partners, a team of management and development specialists for not-for-profit and public organizations, thinks so.

“Wireless handheld PCs, like my Compaq iPAQ, are finding new applications in unusual places because they operate on a compatible platform with other Windows-based hardware,” Simpson says. “Unlike Palm OS or RIM, these devices allow users and developers to extend landlocked applications to the perimeter of an organization.”

The health-care sector as one potential beneficiary of wireless applications, he says, because the current management of patient records is antiquated. “If the wireless handheld, running Microsoft Access or some other application, is attached to the patient’s bed, the chart can be digitized and daily records [entered] at the source without transcription errors or records lost in transit,” he says.

The dollars saved could be especially strong in certain areas of medical care, he adds. For instance, savings could be even greater for home-care nurses and doctors who are tracking treatment and recovery in the field for centralized data files back in the office.
