Adsense Revenue Model - A Complementary Legitimate Income

by Vahid | Good To Know | Sunday, February 11th, 2007

In the last article, I explained why my Adsense revenue dropped just few months after my websites was monetized with it.

Although users have learnt that Adsense ads are advertisements and different from other links, they have also learnt that when they can not find what they want on a page, they can check the Adsense ads and click on them to go to the other websites that may have something they look for.

So most users click on the Adsense ads only when their attention is attracted strongly or after searching the entire page and not finding what they want. If you learn to help users to be attracted more by the Adsense ads and also place the ads at the positions that users click on them when they finish searching the entire page and want to leave it, you will make more money with the Adsense and you will be realized that Adsense revenue model is good and reliable.
In fact, Google Adsense can convert your website wasted traffic to money because as I explained, users who can not found anything useful on your website, will click on the Adsense ads but when you don’t have Adsense on your web pages, most users leave your website without making any money for you.

I personally have tried all the Adsense ad formats and know which one works better than the others. I believe the leaderboard 728 x 90 banner is the best one, specially when it is placed at the bottom of the page. I know many of you may laugh at me but this is what I have experienced. Leaderboard ads are the strongest ads in attracting visitors’ attention, specially those who have read the entire page and want to leave your website.

Leaderboard banner can display up to 4 single ads that have the biggest font size at the titles. If your website format and its design allow you to have the leaderboard 728 x 90 banner on your pages, post them as soon as possible. You can have one at the top and one at the bottom of the pages.

You can have only three Adsense text ad units on each page. So if you post one leaderboard banner at the bottom and one at the top, you can post one more ad unit on the page. Apparently the best option for the third ad unit can be one of the square ads. I like the 250 x 250 banners because Google mostly shows two ads on them with the maximum font size. So they are good in attracting the visitors attention. But where should you post the 250 x 250 banner?

That depends on your web page format. If your web page is aligned at the center, the best place for the 250 x 250 banners is the top left corner. If your web page is aligned at the left, the best place is the top right corner. The below image shows the best arrangement for the Adsense ads on a web page:

Another important thing is the color of the ad units. Always choose the “Default Google Palette” if your web page background color is white. Users are used to the blue hyperlinks. Hyperlinks that have other colors, have less attraction for users. So try to have the ad titles in blue, unless you have to choose another color because of the special background color that your website has.
