Some Facts About Social Bookmarking Websites and the Traffic You Receive from Them
Social bookmarking sites like Digg.com have become so popular among the webmasters and bloggers and they love to have their websites/weblogs pages posted and ranked on these websites.
The reason is clear: Traffic! Is the traffic you receive from websites like Digg.com a quality traffic and will it be ended to sales or clicks on your Adsense ads?
Although social bookmarking can send thousands of free traffic to your websites/weblogs, unfortunately this traffic does not have a significant and remarkable increase in your website/weblog sales. Why? What is the difference of search engine and social bookmarking driven traffic?
The answer is hidden in the users of search engines and social bookmarking websites.
Search engine users are mostly ordinary internet users who look for something special to buy or find the answer of their questions or some solutions for their problems but social bookmarking users are mainly webmaster, bloggers and internet marketers who don’t want to buy anything nor find any answer and solution. So they do not order anything and do not click on any ads.
So why social bookmarking users click on your link and come to your website/weblog?
1. To know their competitors, the products they promote, the way that they optimize their websites, read their other articles and posts, copy their marketing and optimization pattern and … .
2. To add you as their friends, bookmark your website and articles and … and increase their score in the social bookmarking sites and so drive more visitors to their account, website and posts.
3. To become familiar with you and then ask you to bookmark his/her posts and doing the same for you in exchange.
So is it still a good idea to spend time on having your articles and pages posted on the social bookmarking websites or it is wasting of time?
Although the traffic you receive from social bookmarking sites generates almost no sales and clicks but it has some advantages that professional webmasters, bloggers and internet marketers can not afford to ignore.
1. It creates one way links to your pages and helps them to be ranked on search engines better.2. It helps others to find your posts and link to them from their websites/weblogs.
3. It helps you to find more friends who are interested in the same field as you are and so facilitates joint venturing and sharing good ideas and new methods and techniques.
4. It increases your website/weblog Alexa ranking.
5. It helps you to be known as an expert and guru in your niche. You will become famous and this will drive more traffic and link to your website.
Bottom line:
Although the traffic you receive, will not make reasonable money for you but try to have your website/weblog pages posted on the social bookmarking websites legitimately. Keep in your mind that social bookmarking sites are strict about spamming and will ban your site if you don’t comply their rules.

Great post Vahid!
One blog post making the front page of Digg can really launch a blog into the public eye. The tricky part is making the content interesting to the entire community. Top 10 and Howto posts are often featured for a small time. The other consideration is making your site diggable using digg, reddit, delicious buttons as you’ve done.
All the Best,
Dave J
Another great way to get traffic & see search engine rankings fast is to submit to Digg.com If your post is informative & helpful & gets “dugg” a lot it can make it to the front page of the site & drive truck loads of traffic to your site.
Another great reason for using Digg is if you include low competition keywords in your posts name or headline it will show up in Google search the same day!! And often on the 1st page, once it’s a low competition keyword of course.

Nice article. One worry I’ve heard now is that Google Adsense can flag you as a problem by using some social bookmarking sites. Anyone else hear of this?
I have not heard anything about Adsense and having problem with some social websites.
With http://www.socialmarking.com you can easily bookmark any site to 130+ social bookmarking services.
Yes social bookmarking has become popular especially since it can be used to gain valuable back-links and can seriously improve your search engine position. But like with anything, too much of a good thing……
Users should be responsible when using social bookmarking and social marketing techniques. Read the rules of the site to see what is acceptable. I have a bookmarking Pligg site that is especially friendly to marketers. It states very clearly on the front page that we do NOT accept Adult related material. Yet daily I have to delete adult links.
Also, only posting and never participating in the voting process will not get you anywhere. The point of social bookmarking is to be SOCIAL.
Camilla,
What is your bookmarking site?
Although not recommended, social bookmarking can assist with building and boosting keyword rankings for your website.
Word to the wise: use in moderation and check out the site so that it may not be using redirects or no-follows in their link.
Cheers
Great job.
